Samui Thai Cuisine scheduled Oct. 24 as the closing date for its restaurant at 5700 Legacy Drive in The Shops at Legacy, after 23 years in business. The new names coming in around it this season are a French-inspired café, a dessert-and-wine bar, a salad-and-bowl restaurant and a 29,000-square-foot coworking space. That list doesn't look much like the center that opened on the east side of the Dallas North Tollway in 2002.
Part of that older side of Legacy now goes by a different name, and its new tenants have a different focus. Its holiday calendar runs on its own schedule too, separate from the bigger events across the Tollway at Legacy West.
Community Impact reported that owner Melissa Zaino has run Samui Thai for 23 years, and an alert on the restaurant's website says it plans to reopen at another location. For now the menu regulars knew, from the Tom Kha coconut soup to the pad Thai in tamarind sauce, has no Plano address.
A representative from The Shops at Legacy East told the outlet that a Flower Child is planned for the same suite in early 2027, with facility changes expected to start in December. That puts the corner of Legacy Drive under construction through the holidays and leaves a gap of at least a few months before anyone eats there again.
The center has changed a lot since it opened. Local Profile's history of the development says The Shops at Legacy opened in 2002 and first focused on dining and nightlife, with Jasper's as one of its best-known early draws. A second phase north of Legacy Drive and east of Baccus Cemetery got its first tenants in 2006. That phase now goes by The Shops at Legacy East, the name its current owner, Kite Realty, uses for the property. The name also keeps it from being confused with Legacy North and Legacy West across the Tollway.
The same article reports that Jasper's, now in Richardson, and Nicola's Ristorante either moved or closed as Legacy West, which opened in 2017, drew more attention. Developer Fehmi Karahan, who built the original center, told Local Profile that "The Shops at Legacy now is trying to change," adding, "There's recently been a lot of improvements."
Samui Thai, a 23-year-old dinner restaurant, is now leaving too. The tenants filling in around it lean toward coffee, lunch, dessert and desk space.
Here is where each new tenant stands heading into November 2026:
Brooks Brothers is also listed on the center's directory as "coming soon," with no address or date given.
Of those, Bordeaux & Crème says the most about where the center is heading. Founder Shanice Williams described the idea in a statement reported by Community Impact: "Wine and dessert are often treated separately, but they're capable of creating something truly memorable when they're thoughtfully paired." The opening menu includes a Brulee Cheesecake with a brown butter sablé and sugar crust, plus a Pistachio Romance macaron with raspberry confit. Like Maman, it is a small room built for a shorter stop than a full dinner out.
Kiln could change the area more than any of the restaurants. A coworking floor that size brings daytime foot traffic to Lone Star Drive. That is the kind of steady weekday crowd a café and a salad-and-bowl restaurant rely on. Kiln's first Texas location opened at The Hill in Dallas on May 18, so Plano will be its second in the state.
Legacy East also runs its own holiday events, separate from Legacy West's.
Lights at Legacy East is Sunday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., according to the center's event page. Some calendar listings show 5 to 8 p.m. because they are set to Eastern time. Plano time is 4 to 7. The schedule:
Families who can't make the Sunday event can book Santa photos throughout December through the photo provider linked on the event page.
Holly Jolly Sip and Shop follows on Thursday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. The center's page says tickets are "launching soon." If Bordeaux & Crème opens on schedule, a dessert-and-wine stop will be open nearby at The Shops at Legacy Town Center that evening.
Across the Tollway, Legacy West hosts the Plano Food + Wine Festival on Saturday, Nov. 7, from noon to 6 p.m., with more than 100 wines and tastings from 15 restaurants, according to Legacy West's event calendar. The two centers don't overlap. Legacy West has its big festival two weeks before the tree lighting, and Legacy East keeps its smaller events on a Sunday afternoon and a weeknight in December.
One note for anyone driving in from the west side. Community Impact's latest Plano transportation update reports that a set of west Plano intersection upgrades is complete except at Legacy Drive and Corporate Drive. Utility conflicts delayed that intersection, and the city expected to finish it in November. If the work runs late, you may still hit it on the way to the tree lighting.
Maman is pouring coffee on Bishop Road. Bordeaux & Crème should open before year-end if its November renovations finish on time. Kiln's desks are scheduled for late 2026. Flower Child moves into the former Samui Thai space in early 2027. Legacy West kept its fall food festival, while the older side's newest tenants are mostly cafés, quick lunches, dessert and office space.
